The Roman Invasion (AD 43 – c. AD 410)

Julius Caesar first led a Roman invasion of Britain in 55 BC, but it was not successful. In AD 43, Emperor Claudius launched a full-scale invasion and conquered most of Britain. The Romans ruled for about 400 years, building roads, public baths, and towns. They introduced new plants, animals, and the Latin language. Emperor Hadrian built Hadrian's Wall to mark the northern boundary of the Roman Empire in Britain.
