The Anglo-Saxons
盎格鲁-撒克逊人
来源:教材第18页
After the Romans left Britain around AD 410, the Anglo-Saxons arrived from what is now Denmark and northern Germany. The Angles, Saxons, and Jutes established several kingdoms across England. The word 'England' comes from 'Angle-land'. The Anglo-Saxons were initially pagans but gradually converted to Christianity. St Augustine was sent by the Pope to Canterbury in AD 597 to convert the Anglo-Saxons.
