Glorious Revolution 1688
1688光荣革命
来源:教材第15页
In 1688, Protestant William of Orange was invited by Protestant leaders to invade England and overthrow his Catholic father-in-law James II. William landed and James fled to France without resistance — hence 'Glorious' as there was no fighting in England. William III ruled jointly with his wife Mary II. The Bill of Rights (1689) confirmed the rights of Parliament and limits on the king's power. Parliament took control of who could be monarch and required the monarch to be Protestant.
