Chapter 2 · What Is the UK?
John O'Groats to Land's End
Source: Handbook p.68
The longest distance on mainland UK is from John O'Groats on the north coast of Scotland to Land's End in the south-west corner of England — about 870 miles (1,400 kilometres). This route is often used for sponsored charity walks and cycles. Most people in the UK live in towns and cities, but much of Britain remains countryside used for leisure activities such as walking, camping and fishing.
