How to Book the Life in the UK Test

Published 10 April 2026

Before You Book

Before booking your test, make sure you meet the basic requirements:

  • You must be aged 18 or over
  • You need a valid form of photo ID (passport, biometric residence permit, or travel document)
  • You need a debit or credit card to pay the £50 fee

The test fee is £50 per attempt and is non-refundable, even if you fail or miss your appointment. Make sure you're prepared before booking.

Step 1: Go to the Official Booking Website

Visit the official government booking site at www.lituktestbooking.co.uk. This is the only official website for booking the Life in the UK test.

Be careful of unofficial websites that charge extra fees. The test costs exactly £50 — no more, no less.

Step 2: Create an Account

If you're booking for the first time, you'll need to create an account. You'll be asked to provide:

  • Your full name (exactly as it appears on your ID)
  • Your date of birth
  • Your email address
  • Your contact phone number
  • Your home address

Make sure all details match your ID exactly. Any discrepancies could prevent you from taking the test.

Step 3: Choose a Test Centre

There are over 30 test centres across the UK. When choosing a centre, consider:

  • Location — pick one convenient to you
  • Availability — popular centres in London and major cities book up faster
  • Date and time — tests are available on most weekdays and some weekends

You can search for available slots at your preferred centre and choose a date and time that works for you.

Step 4: Pay the £50 Fee

Payment is made online by debit or credit card. The fee is:

  • £50 per test attempt
  • Non-refundable — even if you don't attend
  • You can reschedule up to 3 days before your test date (subject to availability)

Step 5: Receive Your Confirmation

After payment, you'll receive a confirmation email with:

  • Your booking reference number
  • The test centre address
  • The date and time of your test
  • Instructions on what to bring

Save this email — you'll need the booking reference on test day.

What to Bring on Test Day

On the day of your test, you must bring:

  1. Your booking confirmation (printed or on your phone)
  2. Valid photo ID — the same one you used when booking
  3. Arrive at least 15 minutes early

You do not need to bring pens, paper, or any study materials. The test is taken on a computer at the test centre.

What Happens at the Test Centre

  • You'll be checked in and your ID will be verified
  • You'll be seated at a computer
  • The test has 24 multiple-choice questions
  • You have 45 minutes to complete it
  • You need to get at least 18 out of 24 correct (75%) to pass
  • You'll get your result on screen immediately after finishing

If You Need to Reschedule

You can reschedule your test up to 3 days before the appointment. Log in to your booking account and select a new date. No additional fee is charged for rescheduling, but you cannot get a refund if you cancel entirely.

Tips Before Booking

  • Study first, book later — don't book until you're consistently passing practice tests
  • Book early — popular centres can have waiting times of several weeks
  • Double-check your ID — ensure your name matches exactly
