Who can apply

You can usually apply if your partner is:

a British citizen, or
someone settled in the UK (with Indefinite Leave to Remain or settled status), or
in the UK with certain other kinds of status.

You must show your relationship is genuine and one of the following: you are married or in a civil partnership, or you have been living together in a relationship for at least 2 years.

The money rules

For most new partner applications in 2026, you and your partner must show a combined income of at least £29,000 a year (the minimum income requirement). Key points:
