Modern tennis evolved in England in the late 19th century, with the first tennis club founded in Leamington Spa in 1872. The most famous tournament is The Wimbledon Championships, held annually at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. It is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and the only Grand Slam event played on grass. Andy Murray, a Scottish player, won the US Open in 2012 — the first British man to win a Grand Slam singles title since 1936 — and Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016.
