The Church of England (Anglican Church) is the established Church in England, with a constitutional link between Church and state since the Reformation in the 1530s. The monarch is the head of the Church of England. The Archbishop of Canterbury is the spiritual leader. The monarch can appoint the Archbishop, though usually the Prime Minister chooses. Several Church of England bishops sit in the House of Lords. It is called the Episcopal Church in Scotland and the United States.
