The UK has a long history of welcoming people from other countries. In return, the UK expects all residents to respect its values. These values include: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These are not just abstract principles — they underpin the way society works and are reflected in laws and institutions.
