Volunteering and Community Engagement

Source: Handbook p.93

Volunteering — working for good causes without payment — is an important way to be a good citizen. Volunteer activities include helping at schools (PTAs, school governors), giving blood, registering as an organ donor, helping older people, mentoring, litter picks, working with the homeless, and supporting charities (like the British Red Cross, Age UK, NSPCC, Cancer Research UK). Benefits include meeting new people, practising English, developing CV skills, and improving your community.
