Human Rights and the Equality Act

Human Rights Act 1998 incorporated the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law. Key rights include: right to life, freedom from torture, right to a fair trial, freedom of thought and religion, freedom of expression.
Equality Act 2010 protects against discrimination based on 9 protected characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage/civil partnership, pregnancy/maternity, race, religion/belief, sex, sexual orientation.
