When Do You Get Your Life in the UK Test Results?

You find out on the same day, straight after you finish. The result appears on screen at the test centre, and staff hand you a printed letter confirming whether you passed. There is no waiting for an email.

The detail

How you get your result

  • The test is marked automatically the moment you finish your 24 questions
  • Your pass or fail result shows on screen within a minute or two
  • Test centre staff give you a printed notification letter to keep
  • That letter is your proof of the result, so keep it safe for your application
Reading the result

Pass or fail, and nothing in between

The result is simply pass or fail. A pass means you scored at least 18 out of 24. You are not told your exact score if you pass, and there is no grade or percentage on the letter, just the outcome you need for your application.

Walk out with a pass letter

The result is instant, so there is no second chance on the day. The way to make sure that letter says pass is to rehearse the real thing first.

Take a free mock test

A full mock shows you exactly where you would lose marks, in your own language, so you fix it before it counts.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I get my result by email or post?
No. You get it on the day at the test centre, on screen and as a printed letter. Nothing is sent by email or post afterwards, so keep the letter safe.
Will the letter show my exact score?
No. If you pass, the letter confirms the pass without a score. If you do not pass, you are told so you can rebook, but there is no detailed breakdown.
How long do I keep the result letter?
Keep it until your ILR or citizenship application is fully decided. A Life in the UK Test pass does not expire, so the letter stays valid for life.
